If you have an additional router and don’t know what to do with it, then you can convert or set it up as a switch. This switch would help you to connect multiple devices to your already existing network. Continue reading to know how to setup a router as a switch.

Procedure to set up a router as a switch:

  • First, you need to reset the router that is to be converted into a switch.
  • To do so, connect the router to an electrical outlet and turn it ON.
  • Press the Reset button on the router’s panel.
  • Once the router is reset, you’re ready to set it up as a switch.
  • Now, connect the router to your wireless router using an Ethernet cable.
  • Using another Ethernet cable, connect your router to a computer.
  • Now, turn on the router and the computer.
  • Connect your computer to the active internet.
  • Now, on your computer, open a web browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
  • In the search field of the browser, type your router’s IP address. Most of the router's default IP address will be similar to If prompted, enter your router’s default credentials in the given fields.
  • Click the Sign-in button.
  • On the router’s web access page, click the LAN or Setup tab.
  • Now, change the router's IP address. If your active router’s IP address is, then change the other router's IP address as Click the Save button.
  • Now, go to the DHCP Settings window.
  • Disable the DHCP Server option and click Save.
  • Go to the NAT Control Settings window and disable both the options such as Current NAT Status and Current Hardware NAT Status. Click the Save button.
  • Now, click the Wireless Settings tab.
  • Disable the SSID Broadcast, Wireless Router Radio, and WDS Bridging options.
  • Click the Save button followed by OK.
  • That’s it! Your old router has now been configured as a switch.
