How To Setup Wireless Printer

  • Usually, setting up a printer over a wireless network is quite easy than dealing with the chaos of wired connection setup. For the wireless printers, the Wi-Fi capability will be available by default. The wireless setup process for each printer may vary, but the concept is the same.
  • Before you begin to connect your wireless printer to the Wi-Fi network, you must know about your wireless router’s SSID and password.
  • You can find the SSID and password of your wireless router at the back of it or in its user manual.
  • You can use the Wi-Fi Direct, WPS Push, or WPS Pin methods to set up your wireless printer.
  • In the section below, you can find each method briefly.

WPS Push method:

To set up your wireless printer over a network using the WPS Push method, first, you have to get a Wi-Fi router that has the WPS button built-in.

  • Switch on your wireless printer and the Wi-Fi router.
  • Navigate to the Setup section. Select the Wi-Fi Setup option followed by WPS (Push button).
  • Locate the WPS button on your wireless router.
  • When prompted, press and hold the WPS button on your wireless router for a while and release it.
  • Within two minutes, select or press the OK button or icon on your printer.
  • Once the wireless printer is connected to your Wi-Fi router successfully, the Connected message will appear on the screen, tap or press the OK button or icon.
  • Now, install your wireless printer driver software on the Windows or Mac system.
  • Make sure to select Wi-Fi as the connection type when prompted during the driver installation.
  • After completing the driver installation successfully, try to perform a test print, copy, or any printer-related operation from your device to the wireless printer over the Wi-Fi network.
  • If an error occurred or is unable to perform any particular printer-related operation over the wireless network, then check the basic wireless network troubleshooting instructions available on this site.
  • To get remote assistance in fixing your wireless printer setup issues, click the Call button available on this screen.

Wi-Fi Direct:

The Wi-Fi Direct method is quite easy to perform compared to the WPS. You can perform this method without using any router.

  • First, connect your Windows or Mac system to the same Wi-Fi network that the wireless printer is to be connected.
  • Now, turn on your wireless printer if it is turned OFF.
  • Select the Wi-Fi Setup option.
  • Choose the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard option on the Wi-Fi Setup screen.
  • Scroll down the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard screen and select the Wi-Fi Direct Setup option.
  • Choose Connection Setup Change Password Yes.
  • Create and enter the new password in the given field and press the Enter or OK button based on your preferences.
  • Now, the list of available SSIDs will be displayed on your printer screen.
  • Choose your wireless network's name from the displayed list and enter its password.
  • If your wireless printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network successfully, then the Direct connection symbol appears on your printer’s screen.
  • Install your wireless printer’s driver on your Windows or Mac system to complete the Wi-Fi setup.
