If you have bought a new wireless router and don’t know what to do with your old Wi-Fi router, you can easily use the old one as a Wi-Fi receiver. The steps are as follows to know how to set up a router as wifi receiver:
Make sure to place the router within the range of your wireless network.
You can download and install a third-party firmware online.
Choose your router model number and download the right firmware.
Now, open a browser and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar.

Go to the Wireless section.
Now, change the Wireless mode to client.
Type the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to get connected to.
Click on the Apply Settings button to save the settings you have made.
Select the Wireless Security option.

Choose the Security Mode and type the password of your wireless network. Now, click Apply Settings.
Check the top right corner of your web interface for the WAN IP address of the router that is provided by your wireless network.
Go to the Setup section and select Basic Setup.
Now, change the default IP address of your router. This will prevent connection issues with your existing wireless network.
Now, type the gateway of your wireless network.
If you don’t know the gateway address, open Command Prompt as an admin user. Type ipconfig and tap Enter. You can locate the info in the Default Gateway section.
Go to the Basic Setup section and select the WAN port.
Now, checkmark the Assign WAN Port to the Switch box.
