How To Setup Remote Access to Home Network?

Do you know that you can access your home network even from outside? Yes, you can operate the devices connected to your home network even when you are not at home. It is not a simple task and there are a few steps you have to follow properly to enable remote access. But don’t worry, we’ll be discussing how to set up remote access to the home network in the following section.

  • You will need a DDNS supporting router to set up a home network. Generally, the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) settings of the router assigns a different IP address to the network devices each time they are connected to the network.
  • If you want to access the network remotely, the devices should be assigned a Static IP address.
  • Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) is a router function that assigns a domain name to the router but keeps the DHCP working. Some routers do not provide DDNS service for free, so you can use the online DDNS server host to setup remote access. Now let’s proceed with the setup.
  • Connect your computer to the router network and enter the router’s IP address to open the router login page on a web browser.
  • Enter the valid username and password to log in.
  • On the router’s configuration page, navigate to the Settings menu and select Advanced settings.
  • Generally, remote management options are provided under Advanced Settings.
  • Enable the Remote Management feature of the router.
  • Create an account on the DDNS host portal and then open the Settings window on the desktop.
  • Go to the DDNS Services menu and add the DDNS host portal account and verify the IP address you have entered.
  • If you are currently using the computer on the home network, then the IP address appears automatically.
  • Open the router’s configuration page, go to the DDNS settings, and enable it as it is disabled by default.
  • Enter the DDNS server’s host information and save the settings.
  • Once all the DDNS settings are done, you can access the home network using the fixed domain address.
  • By using these above steps on how to setup remote access to home network.
