Here's how to setup Netgear WiFi range extender to increase the existing Wi-Fi range of your Wi-Fi network.

If you are setting up the Netgear router for the first time, follow the below-mentioned steps.

  • First, plug in your Wi-Fi extender to an electrical outlet and wait until the Power LED is flashed.
  • Next, turn it on by pressing the Power button.
  • Connect your computer to the Wi-Fi extender's network using the default Wi-Fi network name and password.
  • Once connected, open the default browser and navigate to the New Extender Setup page.
  • Accept the terms and conditions for the new extender setup and click the 'I Agree' button.
  • Enter 'admin' in the User Name field and type a new password different from your Wi-Fi network key.
  • Choose any two security questions from the drop-down menus and answer them for security purposes.
  • These options will be used if you have accidentally forgotten your login password.
  • Click the Next button and access Netgear Genie to proceed with the Wi-Fi extender setup by clicking the Continue button.
  • Choose the radio buttons for your wireless network's 5GHz and 2.4GHz wireless network names.
  • Click Next and type your network password in the required field.
  • Click the Next button. Select an SSID and password for your extender.
  • For most of the Netgear Wi-Fi extenders, the wireless network name (SSID) will be the same as their existing network by default.
  • However, '_2GEXT' will be added at the end of the network name.
  • For mesh extenders, you can use the same wireless network name and password as your existing network.
  • If you are using a mesh extender, check the Enable One Wi-Fi Name checkbox to activate this feature.
  • Click Next and wait for the extender to apply the selected settings.
  • Once completed, a message with your extender's network name and password will be displayed on the screen.
  • Now, transport the extender at which you wish to extend the Wi-Fi range.
  • Connect your device to the extender and return to the browser window.
  • Enable the checkbox at the bottom of the network settings page and click the Continue button.
  • Now, you can use the broader range of your existing wireless network.
