To know how to set up your Canon printer, read and proceed with the guided instructions given below:

  • Based on the Canon printer model, there will be a slight difference in the setup, but the overall process will be the same.
  • If you are setting up a new Canon printer, then first, check if you have removed all the protective tapes from it.
  • If not, remove all the protective tapes from the printer and then begin the setup process.
  • After removing all the protective tapes, turn on your Canon printer.
  • Unpack the ink cartridges and insert them into their respective slots.
  • Make sure to remove the orange protective tape from the ink cartridge before inserting it into its respective slot.
  • After inserting the ink cartridges, set the basic printer preferences as instructed on the printer screen.
  • When prompted, load a stack of plain papers into the printer.
  • Make sure to load only A4 or U.S paper in the tray.
  • Follow the instructions displayed on your printer screen to complete the printer’s hardware setup.
  • To complete the entire Canon printer setup, install its printer driver software on your Windows or Mac system.
  • Use the printer driver installation CD provided with the package or the downloaded driver file to finish the software setup.
  • Open the driver file, and perform the on-screen instructions to reach the Connection Type screen.
  • You can use the Wireless, Wired, or Local (USB) connection method to connect your Canon printer to the system.
  • Make sure to select the correct network connection type during the driver installation.
  • If you have selected the Wireless option, then you can use the WPS or Wi-Fi Direct method to complete the setup process.

Connecting your printer to Wi-Fi network via WPS (push button)

  • Navigate to the Canon printer’s control panel when prompted during the driver installation.
  • Press or select Setup Wi-Fi Setup WPS (push button).
  • Press the WPS button on your Wi-Fi router when prompted on the printer screen.
  • Then, press or select the OK button on your printer within 2 minutes.
  • Once your Canon printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network successfully, return to the driver installation wizard and complete the remaining steps of the setup process.

Wired Connection Setup

  • If you have selected the Wired Connection option, then make sure to connect your Canon printer to a Wi-Fi router using an Ethernet cable when prompted during the driver installation process.

Local or USB connection

  • This method is quite easy to perform.
  • Get a USB cable from a trusted retail store if it is not provided with the printer package.
  • Choose the Local connection (USB) option on the Select Your Connection Type screen.
  • Using the USB cable, connect your Canon printer to the system.
  • Once you have completed the network connection setup process successfully, perform the remaining steps of the driver installation.
  • After completing it, try to perform any printer-related operations to check if the printer functions.
