Linksys router Access Point

Most of the Linksys routers are designed to be configured by the two following different modes to set up access point.

  • Access point as an access point
  • Access point as a wireless repeater

In addition, the Linksys wireless G-Access Points router can be configured as an access point client and wireless bridge. To know how to set up an access point as an access point and a wireless repeater on a Linksys router, refer to the quick instructions mentioned below.

Setting Up The Access Point As An Access Point

Step 1

  • Establish a connection between your existing wireless router and the Linksys router.
  • Connect the Linksys router to your computer.

Step 2

  • Visit the Linksys router’s web interface page by entering its default IP address in the address field.
  • If prompted, enter the login credentials correctly in the Username and Password fields.

Step 3

  • Navigate to the Wireless tab, create your network name in the Network Name (SSID) field, and choose the Enabled option from the SSID Broadcast drop-down menu.
  • Go to the Wireless Security tab, choose the WPA2-Personal option from the Security Mode drop-down menu, and enter your network key in the Passphrase field.

Step 4

Save the access point network settings. Proceed with the steps below to set up access point as a wireless repeater.

Setting Up The Access Point As A Wireless Repeater

Step 1

  • Access the web interface page of the existing wireless router.
  • Navigate to Status -> Wireless, and note down the MAC address of the existing wireless router.

Step 2

  • Establish a connection between the Linksys router and your computer using an Ethernet cable.

Step 3 (Assigning A Static Address)

  • On the computer, navigate to the system tray and right-click the Network Connections option.
  • Select the Open Network and Sharing Center option and click the Change adapter settings link.
  • After you right-click the Local Area Connection option, select Properties -> Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) -> Properties.
  • Select the radio button beside the ‘Use the following IP address’ option and fill the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway fields with the appropriate information.
  • Click the ‘Use the following DNS server addresses’ option, provide the necessary information in both the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields, and select the OK option.

Step 4

Open the web interface page of the Linksys router and make a note of the MAC address.

Step 5

  • Click the Setup tab followed by the AP Mode tab, select the radio button next to the Wireless Repeater option, and enter the noted MAC address in the ‘Remote Access Point’s LAN MAC Address’ field.

Step 6

  • Now, click the Save Settings option at the bottom of the web page. If you need remote assistance to set up access point, click the call button available on the screen.
