- Initially, make sure that your router/access point is configured properly.
- If not, configure it first.
- Once the router or access point is configured properly, you’re ready for the setup process.
- Now, get the Ethernet cable.
- Connect the one end of the Ethernet cable into your router.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Windows 8 computer.
- Now, turn on your Windows 8 computer and log in to it as administrator.
- Open the Control Panel window on the computer.
- Click on the Network and Internet option.
- Select Internet Options on the Network and Internet screen.
- Now, a dialog box titled Internet Properties will open.
- Click the Connections tab on the Internet Properties dialog box.
- Navigate to the Local Area Network (LAN) settings section.
- Click the LAN Settings button.
- Now, a pop-up dialog box titled Local Area Network (LAN) Settings will open.
- Below the Automatic Configuration area, select the Automatically detect settings option or the Use automatic configuration script option by clicking the checkbox beside it.
- If you want to use a proxy server for the connectivity process, select the use of a proxy server for your LAN option.
- Click the OK button followed by OK.
- Now, try to connect your Windows 8 computer to the Internet over a wired network.
