How To Connect Hp Printer To Laptop

The HP or Hewlett-Packard is an American multinational technology company. It developed and provided a variety of hardware components related to services to computers.

The Windows provides different drivers for their variations of printers. The drivers usually support the functionality of the print job. Before we proceed to the different connection types that can be established between the printer and the computer, 

  • Make sure you have installed the driver with the provided installation disk on your computer.
  • If you do not have the installation disc, you can download the driver from the official HP support website.
  • You can select the type of printer and the model name.
  • Select the type of operating system based on your computer.
  • When the file is downloaded, the device installation settings will open.
  • Click the Yes radio button and click on Save Changes.

Connect The Printer To The Computer

  • USB Connection to your computer
  • Wireless (Wi-Fi) connection to your computer
  • Wired connection to your computer

Usb Connection

  • To make the connection with a USB cable, make sure the computer is turned on and connected to the internet.
  • Turn on the printer. Connect the USB cable to the USB port of the printer, which is at the rear end, and connect the other end of the USB cable to the computer.
  • When the Found New Hardware window appears, follow either of the prompts to install the driver. Now, try to print.
  • If you can detect the printer on your computer, it indicates that the driver is installed.
  • You can click on Continue and proceed with a test print.

Wireless Connection (Wi-Fi)

You can connect the printer to the computer using one of the two methods,

Method 1: Using the Wireless Setup Wizard

  • Make sure to note down the network name (SSID) and the Network security password (WEP Key).
  • The computer is connected to the wireless network.
  • Make sure the printer, router, and the computer are turned on.
  • Make sure the wireless network is connected to the printer.
  • Remove any USB or Ethernet cables from the printer.
  • From the printer control panel, click the Setup, Network, or Wireless menu.
  • Click the setup wizard and follow the on-screen instructions to connect to the printer.

Method 2: Using the Wi-Fi protected Setup (WPS)

  • Connect the printer with the WPS.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button on the control panel.
  • When the light starts blinking, release the WPS button.
  • Now go to your router and hold the WPS button on it to make a connection between them.
  • Wait for a few minutes for the connection to be established.
  • Click Test Print.

Method 3: Wired Connection

  • You can connect the HP printer to your computer using the Ethernet cable.
  • The cable has two ends, one of which is wider.
  • Turn on the printer and remove the protective casing for the port.
  • Connect the wider end of the Ethernet cable to the computer and connect the other end to the router.
  • The computer will take some time to find the connection.
